How Much Control Do Players Really Have Over Life Outcomes in BitLife?

I’ve been spending more time with BitLife lately, and I’m curious about how deeply player decisions influence the overall life path. In the game, you start from birth and progress year by year, making choices about education, relationships, careers, finances, health, and even moral decisions. Each year presents new scenarios where you can take safe, responsible options or risky, unpredictable ones.

Gameplay revolves around managing multiple life stats such as happiness, health, intelligence, and looks, while also balancing school performance, job promotions, and personal relationships. Activities like studying, working harder, going to the gym, socializing, or committing to relationships all interact with these stats. Random events—such as sudden opportunities, family issues, or unexpected setbacks can drastically change the direction of your life, even if you plan carefully.

Because of this mix of strategy and randomness, I’m wondering: to what extent can experienced players consistently shape successful outcomes? Are there specific gameplay systems like maintaining high intelligence early, choosing certain careers, or managing relationships carefully that give players more long-term control, or is BitLife intentionally designed so that chance always plays a major role in shaping each life story?
